This sounds good! I adore steampunk. Aww sad to hear that it suffers because it's YA though :(

It's one of those books that's good as a YA novel, but it would be GREAT as an adult one! I'm hoping that the sequels will bring us deeper into this alternate universe.

I still have Leviathan and Behemoth waitng for me. I am also not so keen on YA, so what you said sort of confirms my suspicions about the books. Still they sound good. Looking forward to reading them.

I definitely think it's worth reading -- and it seems to be a popular choice for your steampunk challenge!

This is a book on my wishlist, I even made the library buy it cos I am so curious. But still waiting for them to process it or whatever they do that takes so long.

Nice review :D

Good point about not being as "in-depth" as an more adult-oriented article. I think this didn't bug me as much, though, because I was so taken by how inventive and alternative Westerfeld is, and how the artwork compliments the text so well.

The illustrations are great, aren't they? I especially loved the map at the beginning. And I do agree that the creative world-building is a real strength of this novel. I just think it would be even better as an adult book. Still, I'm looking forward to the sequels -- and Behemoth comes out in paperback soon!
