I read my first one in this series just a few months ago as well. I read The Man on the Balcony. Yay for police procedurals! I liked your analysis of what is different from cozies. I know I've always like procedurals back from my Ed McBain's 87th precinct days, but I could never have articulated what was different about them. I think that as we read the series, the detectives will become more differentiated. I know the first time I read Indridason's Iceland mysteries, I couldn't keep all the cops straight, but after a few books, I can't imagine how I didn't know each of them.
This series must have been recently rereleased - I've been seeing reviews for lots of them. Libraries must be bringing in this 'new' series.
It's good to know that the policemen might be differentiated better in other books. I would definitely consider reading more in the series, especially because I think The Laughing Policeman is Book #10 or somewhere around there!
I believe the series is being, or has recently been, re-released in the U.S. I've certainly seen these books on shelves in bookstores recently, with spiffy new covers and all!
