This sounds so familiar that I think I must have seen it performed at some stage, or possibly seen a movie. But heck yes... that original play must've been amazing. I have a book on my library pile written by Noel Coward's 'butler' would you believe...
Noel Coward's butler? Sounds interesting! And yes, it's so irritating that the first run of this play is long gone. I should try to see if there is a movie, because I'd definitely love to watch it if so!
I have *SO* been meaning to read this play!!! (it has NOTHING at all to do with the fact that Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan played opposite one another in a run of it in 2001 or that Maggie Smith played Amanda for 3 seasons, nuh uh). I'm really glad you liked it; now I'll have to move it way up in the TBR pile.
Haha, you're funny. And you should read it soon! The wonderful thing about plays is that they're very short, and they generally read very quickly. You'll be through it in no time!
Definitely putting this on the "To Read" list. I get the feeling that the plot and book feel a bit like something Oscar Wilde might have written? (http://booksbeforebreakfast.blogspot.com)
Hmm, interesting comparison! I think the styles are somewhat different -- Wilde relies more on paradoxes, for example -- but I definitely think that if you like Wilde, you'll like this play too.
