63. Winifred Watson, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

Miss Guenivere Pettigrew is 40 years old and down on her luck. She’s spent her entire life as an unwanted afterthought, and now she is reduced to taking whatever sporadic governess jobs she can find. But everything changes when she answers the advertisement of a Miss LaFosse, who turns out to be a ravishingly beautiful actress and singer. Miss LaFosse’s glamorous life completely enthralls Miss Pettigrew, even when she learns that Miss LaFosse has multiple lovers and sings in a nightclub. Before she knows it, Miss Pettigrew is swept up into Miss LaFosse’s exciting world - and finds herself enjoying every minute of it! But will Miss Pettigrew’s fairy tale end when this extraordinary day is over, or will she at last find the courage to start a new life?

I had been wanting to read this book ever since the movie came out, and now I finally have! I found it sweet, charming, and completely captivating from beginning to end. I’m still on a book-induced high from it! :) I found Miss Pettigrew a very lovable and relatable character, and it’s touching to see how she blossoms under even a little bit of kindness from the people around her. The book is a 1930s fairy tale with a shamelessly happy ending, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a feel-good comfort read. Loved it!

P.S. Sorry to inundate your f-lists with so many reviews...I've been on a literary bender of sorts ever since classes let out. And it is glorious! :)
