We were discussing Augustine's treatment of grief in the Confessions in class today, and the professor brought up the weeping of Peter after Jesus' death, bitter weeping. The idea that God knows me better than I know myself is scary, in a way. Sorta brings the whole omniscience thing home on a more personal level.

Capheine has a point..

Part of our thinking always finds someone knowing our true selves scary.

On the other hand, knowing that their is a God who cares intimately about our lives can be very comforting.

I think we often hide from ourselves - sometimes for a whole lifetime...

So, while the thought of 'being known inside out' and having all our selfishness and failure known is indeed pretty scary, I think - actually - it must also be a tremendous relief...

To find a truly loving person with whom we no longer have to hide, we no longer have to lie, we no longer have to pretend.

Up
