I am who I am

Exodus 3:14 (New International Version)
"14 God said to Moses, "I am who I am . [a] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "

here is my interpretation of this passage:

I think that "I AM" also points us to God's existence in eternity past, "before all worlds" ... or, put another way, to the fact that all time is present to Him. It also emphasizes the Creator/creature distinction.

As a side note, one of my great temptations is, upon reading this passage, to immediately think of Popeye, who said, I am what I am.

Interesting how comforting a simple 'I statement" can be. I Think that your point about knowing yourself is indeed warranted, but so it knowing WHY you believe what you believe. I was listening online to a J.P Moreland sermon, and he was discussing replacing the word "Faith" with Trust, because Trust seems to have more of a solid assurance to it, and that we as Christians need to be able to say WHY we believe in Jesus, not just that we have faith in him, sighting the scriptural exhortation to "be ready to give an account".
