A proposal by a Roman Catholic bishop in the Netherlands that people of all faiths refer to God as "Allah" is not sitting well with the Catholic community

I agree that God doesn't care what language we use. The Orthodox Christians in the Near East use Allah for God, not because they are saying anything about Christianity and Islam, but because Allah is the word for God is Arabic. If the Christians in Indonesia used Allah, I see no problem with that. At the same time, I see no reason or need to change the word for God in Christian speaking countries. Allah is to Arabic what God is to English, Deus is to Latin, Gor is to Swedish, and Dios is to Spanish. I don't understand why any of this is a big deal on any front.
This is absolutely ridiculous. Allah is just the Arabic word for God. Arabic-speaking Christians use the word Allah to refer to God. It's not a distinctly Muslim word. But that doesn't mean there's any reason for Dutch-speaking Christians (unless the historical language of their church is Arabic) to have to refer to God with an Arabic word, any more than there is a reason for them to have to refer to God with an Italian, German, French, or Chinese word.
I think before we start trying to force people to try to say God in one language or another we should focus on trying to get people to stop using God paired with cuss words. I know that's not the point of this post, but I think how we use His name is much more important than which name we use.

I had no idea Godde spoke German.
Jesus certainly didn't, so watch it!!!
If you're not careful, I will report you to the moderators.
It's Godde.
More importantly, kudos to the bishop for "offering condoms to combat HIV and AIDS."
Clearly he's got *some* sense.
