This post is intended as a counter-balance to some recent posts in this community that directly assault the authority of scripture, in particular that of the OT. This post is not a defense of sola scriptura or literalism. Nor does it in any way represent an assertion that New Covenant disciples must somehow be obedient to OT law.

You say there is no contradiction at all between the OT and Jesus' teachings. How then do you reconcile eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, with Christ's admonishment to love your enemies?

What you describe here is precisely the approach the Orthodox take to the OT in our hymns, at least in general, if not in specifics. (Not that there are any specifics I can see here that we disagree with; I'm just hedging my statement a bit.)

It's the only way I can keep track of stuff so I don't rewrite it fifty times and instead keep a reference. And I still do that most of the time anyhow. This is just one that comes up particularly often.
