It had been almost three weeks since that morning Jensen had confessed to Jared that he was in love with him, after a stupid responds from Jared at the convention that had hurt his feelings. Jared had been quiet the first few days, causing Jensen to worry that he had screwed up their easy friendship because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut. But halfway through that first week, Jared slowly turned back into his old self around Jensen, and now he was back to talking a mile a minute about who knows what to Jensen, making him smile, and touching him for what seemed like every other minute. He didn’t know what he missed most those tense few days, Jared’s verbal diarrhea or his constant touching. It didn’t matter anyway, Jensen was just glad that everything was back to normal, that Jared could ignore the fact that Jensen was madly in love with him, a fact that Jensen himself was constantly trying to ignore as well.
Today there was something different though. They were almost done filming season three; tomorrow would be the last day and the next morning Jared would get on a plane to Texas to begin filming Friday the 13th. Jensen himself was excited about his own movie, which started filming a few weeks from now, and he was happy for Jared about Friday the 13th, but he was mostly just sad that he wouldn’t see Jared for the next two months. It helped knowing that they would be back early July to film season four, a season four which surprisingly had been announced early this year. But still, the thought of two months without Jared definitely didn’t make him happy.
Jared on the other hand was very happy today; Jensen could swear that he bounced around even more than normal, which really shouldn’t be possible. He was smiling pretty much every second of the day except when filming, because Sam didn’t have anything to smile about since Dean was going to die in the episode they were currently filming.
To make it even stranger, several times today, when they looked at each other, Jared had smiled at him in a different way. A smile he couldn’t remember ever seeing from Jared before. It was a knowing smile and there was this glister in his eyes. It confused the heck out of Jensen, and it was getting kind of unnerving. At first Jensen tried to shrug it off because Jared was still acting like himself, except for that new smile and being very happy on what Jensen considered a sad day, but at the end of the day it was really getting to him.
After their last shoot of the day Jensen walked fast to catch up with Jared, who was already walking toward his trailer. “Hey man, what’s up?” Jensen asked.
Jared slowed down, turned to face him and gave him another one of those mystery smiles. “Nothing man, I’m going home to pack and then crash.”
“You’re in a good mood today, what’s up with that? Are you that happy to be rid of me for the next few months?” Jensen tried to sound casual, keep it light, but by the look on Jared face he knew that he failed miserably. Jared was always way too good at reading him. Come to think of it, it surprised him that he had been able to hide the fact that he was in love with him for so long.
Jared reached his arm around Jensen’s shoulders and pulled him close. “Dude, don’t be silly, I’ll miss you like crazy.”
Jensen was surprised how relieved that made him feel. Until he mentioned it just now, he wasn’t even consciously aware that he was worried that not being together for the next two months was the reason why Jared was so happy. With that weight off his shoulders he was now able to really smile at Jared. “Then why are you so happy and bouncy today?” Jensen questioned, now simply curious about his friend’s good mood.
Jared had removed his arm from around Jensen, but they were still walking closely, their arms brushing against each other with every step. “Life is good, you know. Yeah it’s the last few days here on set, but we’ll be back in July and we can visit each other during the hiatus. I’ve got a great movie coming up, great friends, and a great family. Life’s good, man.”
Jensen smiled, Jared was right, life was indeed good. He walked to his trailer getting ready to go home, forgetting all about Jared’s mystery smile, and never realizing that when Jared listed all the ‘great’ things in his life he had not once mentioned his fiancé.
