Kimya Dawson played a free show at Amoeba Records near my house about two months ago. It was great and it's so weird to hear these slightly subversive artists put out children's music... like They Might Be Giants, another band I saw perform their children's songs at an Amoeba in store.
Amoeba has awesome in store's actually... Blood Brothers, Paul McCartney, Neon Neon, Kids of Widney High, Super Furry Animals... pretty cool.
I think the fake story this week is that Chris has a girlfriend.
I didn't care that much for Spoonboy's "content" either. It was good for me, however, to study him and see an example of a one-man performance... study his habits and how he presents himself between songs and what-not.
Also, I'd been picturing myself doing something like Annie Clark did (standing up and using a foot-pedal, electric kick drum) but had been thinking that that might be too much to try and connect my brain to while playing the violin (and possibly singing). Then Angelo got all set up to play and I was like "OH YEAH! SITTING DOWN! WHAT A GREAT IDEA!"
I think I need to watch more one-man-band type performances (live) and get some more ideas.

My friends Owen and Isiah play together in a two-man cover band. Owen is on keyboard, accordion and trumpet. Isiah is on guitar, vocals and electric kick drum.
Isiah seems to have have a hard time keeping track of time on the kick drum... most of the time, he's rushing, but only on the drum. He doesn't notice that he's doing it, but I've seen it throw Owen off from time to time.
The kick drum certainly adds a lot, but it makes me wish they had an actual drummer.
