I have a vague recollection that someone on my flist needed to get a website to answer to a particular search engine search. I have NO idea how to make this happen, but have been asked by the Newcomb legal team to try to get the site so that google finds it first when a user types in "Newcomb College". Help the clueless? Google's ranking works by counting the number of people linking TO a site. The more, the higher the ranking. Now, you can make a particular search term return your site first by having people put the term you want to use in the link.
For example ~a href="http://www.newcomblives.com"~Newcomb College~/a~ (Replace the ~ with "<" and ">")
If you can get hundreds of people to do it, you'll be the top unsponsored link on Google. That's how people have managed to fix it so the top result on Google for "Miserable failure" is the George W. Bush campaign website. (The technique is called "Google boming")

So, we should actually type in the Newcomb College and then click on it?

The more ethically challenged out there actually have programs that will generate thousands of bogus webpages that contain nothing but the link. For example, I have 5 gigs at Ace-host.net. I would fill it up with pages that have nothing on them but the link. (Porn sites use this technique to raise engine ranking.)
The more ethical way to go about it is to spread the link as a meme, so that each link is on a real, publicly viewable page or blog.
