Not exactly...

We try and sell on as many of our lambs as possible for breeding stock but not this one.

(whispers in a very quiet voice) He went the way of all non-breeding lambs.

It's a sad part of the self-sufficiency life but a central one. We try to give them the best life possible for the short time they're with us - they have acres of space, friends to gamboll with, all the grass they can eat, shelter for when it rains and unlimited care if they're sick.

Atresia ani!!!

Sorry. Being the veterinary geek that I am, I find things like this to be really cool.

I'd say the same thing while eating lamb chops, too. ;-)

Lamb problems anonymous February 6 2007, 08:27:41 UTC
We had the same thing happen with a Shetland lamb a few years ago - however, our vet was not at all interested in making it whole - and just recommended that we put it down, which we did. You can be sure that is one thing that my husband, the shepherd, checks for now when he counts tails & toes (so to speak)

I do so enjoy your writing!

The lamb born 'without' ! mothership28 March 1 2007, 12:40:36 UTC
We have just found that one of our lambs have exactly the same problem !, I am in south wales and am unsure whether you are from the uk and whether your 'wonder' vet was close enough to us to help as our own vet seems unwilling to 'get stuck in'!
fingers (and legs)crossed !

Sorry, our vet is in Normandy. The operation though didn't take long and, from the sidelines, looked straightforward - cut, hope, look inside and stitch together what was there.
