I'm glad that AVOS came along and saved Delicious from disappearing into the ether, but did they have to pretty it up and add all sorts of scripts and upgraded business the very same day they acquired it? The new site is all... fancy. And how is it even possible that they have managed to add a bunch of new features to the site, while somehow ( Read more... )

I stopped saving stuff to delicious and used Diigo when Yahoo started to abandon it but even cynical I am amazed at how completely AVOS mucked up a good bookmarking site.

I get that AVOS may have been forced to go live with the site before they were ready, but I suspect that they also seriously underestimated how nervous loyal users were about the changeover. So when everyone woke up one morning and couldn't find their tag bundles, it wasn't, "I'll just send a request to user support and patiently wait until this function is reintroduced, it was, "MY TAG BUNDLES OH GOD MY TAG BUNDLES WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY TAG BUNDLES!!!" While they may not have been able to do anything about getting the code ready faster, they could have done a lot more to nip the panic in the bud.

I'll probably stick it out since they're slowly adding back all the lost functions, and I seem to have developed some sort of weird brand loyalty to delicious over the past couple of years, but it's difficult and I back up my bookmarks every day just in case.

I could handle all of the changes they made IF ONLY the new Delicious would LET ME STAY SIGNED IN, omg, whyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Like, not just signing me out when I close the browser, but signing me out after EVERYTHING. I just want to be with you, Delicious, I don't want to abandon you like everyone else, but you are making it SO HARD.

(The explanation I have heard for why it is all different now is that Yahoo just sort of sold the userbase and information, but wouldn't let AVOS have the code, so they had to make their own from scratch.)

We must be strong in these trying times. Courage, strippedhalo. Courage!

It was constantly logging me out for a few days, too, but it's better now, so I guess it's something they're fixing in batches? I'm trying to be patient so that when the dust settles, Delicious will LOVE ME BACK, but it is hard. I don't want to pile on because they've said that the lost functions will be back, and it's already gotten better in the past few days alone. But OMG. SO HARD.

I mostly hate the thought that people are panicking and leaving in droves, never to come back, which means the site will DIE. I couldn't bear that. I DON'T WANT any of those other poser sites, so hurry and and fix this one!
