I'm curious - what's the advantage of Dreamwidth over LJ? I had a quick look, and Dreamwidth struck me as LJ without the user base but with a cooler name. Kind of like Ubuntu when it first started.

I keep thinking about moving from LJ, then I find another author I like who has an LJ account. (This time it's Elizabeth Moon, who of course is in big trouble at the moment.)

I resisted the move to DW for this journal for a long time for two reasons: LJ's user base (I've been here for 9 years and have met a lot of great people--you for example--and changing platforms doesn't bring the community with me), and I have a permanent LJ account. But I like Dreamwidth as a company better. The Facebook connect to comments on locked posts was the last straw with me for LJ. Yes, they removed it after the user uproar, but come on. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a *lot* of people would not be okay with people having a way to automatically connect comments left on their locked entries to freaking Facebook. Before that, it was the ecommerce link altering thing. Or any number of controversies. I've just gotten to the point where I feel like the people who run LJ don't have a whole lot of respect for the people who use it.

I'll still keep this account going. I'm going to cross-post, too, though as I mentioned, I'll probably set entries here to friends only.
