You may recall my complaint about Delta Airlines last year concerning their inability to keep a schedule. They've got nothing on Northwest

I agree that this should go to the press. They will love it, and maybe the negative publicity NWA gets out of this will, in the future, make them and other airlines more aware and attentive when they are handling children!
And kudos to Alex. He sure is an intelligent guy.. I can't imagine many 11 year olds who in a situation like that would have remained a)cool and b)found out on their own that they were on the wrong plane!
It just occurred to me how appropriate the song I put in this post is to this story. It just happened to be what I had in my head at the time, which is what I always use for my journal posts, but it fits.
I sent an email to the Columbus Dispatch. We'll see if they're interested. I found the address for a lady who is listed as "families and children reporter". I pointed her to this journal entry rather than type it all out again or copy and paste it.
Call them on the phone. Emails, especially emails that just have a link to an online journal, are a little too easy to lose or ignore. I'd suggest contacting more than one news outlet, too - a local TV station very well might find this appealing, and if you can stomach Fox, they *love* "your children are in DANGER. yes, contact the media, and the faa, and your congressperson, senator and anyone else that has any kind of influence. skip the person on the phone and find out the mailing address of the president and board of members of the airline. threaten to slap them so hard with a lawsuit over this that their children's gonads will produce bruised zygotes. save everything you write in both electronic and hard copy. save everything you get in response and make sure to absolutely demand a response from the airlines and those who are supposed to police them.
then, if you don't get any satisfaction, take it all to a contingency lawyer and sue their asses off.
The more I think about this, the less I believe that a lawsuit would be prudent without being able to contact the other family. And I don't know of any way to even find out who they WERE. The airline sure isn't going to give me their contact information.
No, I think the only thing I can do is make this as public as possible.
