This one works for me at least. Get a glass of hot water, dissolve as much salt as you can in it, add some cold water so it`s not too hot, and then swoosh it around in your mouth for as long as you can bear. Stings like a motherfucker, but afterwards it seems to ease the pain somewhat. Hope you can get to a dentist soon!
Seconding this. Salt water is the bomb. (Unless you have an abscess, in which case the water shouldn't be warm because it makes bacteria happy. Gross.)
Oh poor poor you *hugs* Take a painkiller and try to get to bed early, hopefully it will be better in the morning. I had to lol at what you thought the cashier at the combini thought though.

Try the hot salty mouthwash above, but if it doesn't work, it's probably an abcess and you will need a dentist. Take as many painkillers as the packet says you can have. A hot cloth against your face on the side the sore tooth is may also help. If you're lucky, the abcess could burst - however, it could burst out of the goddamn side of your face, so don't rely on that. D:
Whatever you do, don't press an aspirin up against the tooth - apparently that's a home remedy? It does nothing and will probably leave you with an added chemical burn on the area. Also, I'm afraid garlic doesn't work. :/
