VOICE ✍ 004 --> Backdated to WEDNESDAY EVENING, June 29th

Jul 01, 2011 12:31

[Inspector Javert does not make a video broadcast this time. Instead, for this bulletin, his voice sounds crisp, cold, detached, and shockingly steady considering the fact that this woman is his wife and he hasn't heard from her since before Sunday.]I am seeking a woman called Dr. Naomi Hunter. Send any information, whether she is dead or living, ( Read more... )

[Well, this is quite the surprise.]

Your wife is missing. [Obviously.] When were you last in communication with her?

Unaccounted for.

[Civility. Very stiff, professional, and strained civility, but at least she is behaving like a gentlewoman. There is a brief pause while Javert collects his thoughts, remembering his last urgent chat with Naomi.]

I remember it was Saturday, [he declares abruptly.] The rains were worst then.

[There is more than just a hint of surprise in the usually composed prosecutor's voice.]

And you've waited this long to find her?! [While Naomi and Javert may not be her favorite people in Somarium, it is quite odd to hear that the woman's own husband has waited this long to finally put out a request on her whereabouts. Did he even really even care for her safety after all that had happened in the last week?

There is only silence on Franziska's end until finally a small huff.] You fool.

I will arrange for a small group of men to locate her.

Don't think I have done nothing. But I will not waste our resources needlessly. I will follow proper procedure.

[Javert's voice takes on a steely, frosty edge. It is the most emotion he has expressed so far. If it even qualifies as emotive expression.]

How many men?

[Javert hesitates, his morose thoughtfulness almost palpable. He says, curtly and without further explanation,]

No.

I have her Dreamberry in my possession, [Javert all but snarls. One beat is all it takes to return to his calm, cold, composed disposition.]

You saw her. Where did you take her?

[How very interesting.]

Is this Dr. Hunter a very dangerous person?

[Javert's voice is so dry and impassive that it is hard to say whether he is joking or not.]

She is sometimes known to have a dangerous wit.

This is a very slight woman, a waif of a girl. I do not doubt that a strong wind would blow her away, rather. Hardly capable of dangerous feats.

Sometimes those you least expect to be are the most dangerous.

If she is so harmless why would the police be so determined to find her?

The police are determined to find her the same as any missing people from this calamity.

[It is with difficulty that Javert abruptly corrects and acknowledges the following fine difference, knowing full well that as Chief Inspector of Somni City, he is the voice of the police:]

I speak this time as a man. Not as the police.

[Valjean is slightly startled to hear the man's wife referred to by her maiden name and not the name she had only taken from him a month earlier, but this is obviously not the time to bring up such a trivial matter.]

Have you any word on her location?

Not yet, [says Javert tightly, his eyes narrowing when he spots the familiar name on his caller ID. He presses his lips tightly together and frowns, unseen by his old enemy.]

You haven't spotted her recently, then.

No, I have not, but I will begin a search immediately. What districts have you covered?

Why?

[Valjean should be able to hear the deep frown in Javert's voice.]

--The Government District is cleared. And the village is leveled. Whatever bodies are left there will be discovered by the police.

Last I saw her, she was safe and sound on the rooftop of my apartment building. [There's a pause there, as Desmond is not sure if he should add anything or not] She seemed concerned about you.

She lives last you saw! When? Did you take her there, like one of your apeish assassin friends??

Yeah, she was cold and wet, but kicking none the less. She seemed pretty concerned about you, though. [Even though she tried not to show it.

....Is he insulting his ancestors there? Those apeish men would have saved many if they had been there. But Desmond is just going to ignore that little jab]

No, I was setting up tents and provision all day for the people taking refuge here. A man dressed in military uniform brought Naomi here before he went looking for others. I'm assuming he was one of yours?

The army is not under my authority! [says Javert.] I may be an old soldier, but I have been a police officer for much longer.

[Though he does give a thoughtful, grim pause. He presses onward curtly,]

Was he an unshaved man? With hair as scraggy as his whiskers and a voice like a bear's?
