[The Prince watches the dream silently, only raising an eyebrow slowly at the physical aspect of it. For a moment, he wonders if he should feel threatened by this or not.
He recognizes the diamonds at the end of the dream and he smirks slightly. He hadn't expected to anger the Inspector with his gift to Naomi, but this is definitely a plus.
He's tempted to talk, but doesn't for the moment, knowing that just him watching the dream and waiting for Javert's reaction is probably enough to grate the older man.]

[Two hateful eyes burn back at Dastan, set into an indifferent expression on an indifferent face. You are like pond scum or gutter worms to Javert, Dastan.]
I will not listen to the sound of your breathing all day. Hurry up and speak or go away.
[Road doesn't recognize the Prince, but she hardly needs to know him to figure out what's going on in the dream. She knew they were together - it was a hardly a secret. Almost everyone knew in Somarium anyway thanks that blonde French boy. Dead air comes from Road's side of the line before she lets out a soft giggle.]
Brat! [Javert huffs and bristles.] You will call me Monsieur l'Inspecteur.
[Though despite the automatic admonishment, Javert does not exactly expect an impertinent girl like Road Kamelot to call him by his proper self-made title.]
And I advise you to quit your literal understanding of dreams.
The good doctor knows most people in this city. That doesn't surprise me. [Though there is a bit of a hard edge to his swift, indifferent dismissal of Road's suggestion. Simply because he knows Naomi has spent time with Dastan does not mean he thinks it's a capital idea.]
I meant that this event is a fiction.
[The event itself? Sure, perhaps it never happened, but that doesn't mean the sentiment and bad blood isn't real. That Javert will not claim.]
[Javert's eyes shine, his expression cold and serious.]
Public service functionaries must be examined both on and off duty. That is natural; it determines a man's suitability for a position. But so long as the functionary is not dishonorable or crooked then personal affairs matter little.
[He grimaces.]
It is when personal affairs mix and conflict with professional duty that it becomes problematic.
[In the face of his superior, Javert is respectful and humble as always. He makes sure his hat is removed and his eyes cast low before returning the call.
A perceptive man, or a man with a lot of experience with Inspector Javert, should be able to detect a deliberate measure of restraint in his response.]
I have not assigned a permanent tail to him directly. [That isn't to say Javert hasn't kept a very close eye on Dastan for all this time.] The boy is a buffoon, but the fellows he is chumming with have eyes sharper than a hawk's. I don't have enough men to spare with the strength and speed to match them.

Did I understand it wrong? It isn't like I haven't seen mother dearest around Somarium with that man.

As much as I appreciate your restraint in questioning my affairs, [says Javert bluntly and wryly,] it is done just barely.

Not that I have seen. [A pause.] Not visibly.
