Hi! B and I are slowly settling in here at our new place in the Midwest. One of the things that has turned out to be very hard to get is Internet service. That is why B and I are at our wits end with AT&T. They promised us a very easy transition that has turned out to be a nightmare. They keep sending the technicians to our old address 1700 miles ( Read more... )

Augh, what a nightmare. That company better get its act together! I sure hope everything finally gets resolved tomorrow. I've been through the frustration of going without internet for a period of time, especially when it's so important to EVERYTHING we do... and particularly since your lives are still so unsettled. With the way the world is now, it will be hard for you to get used to your town with shops closed and people wary. But you and B have each other, and there's plenty to keep you occupied after a move, and with luck the world will right itself sooner rather than later!

It's so good to hear from you. Please give B my love.

Boo hiss, AT&T! But yay for B keeping on them--as my dad likes to say, "only irritated oysters produce pearls."

Moving is, like, fractally stressful--every little bit of it is as stressful as the whole thing. I *hate* moving. So I am very sympathetic to you right now and send lots of virtual non-contagious cyberhugs!!!

Fractally stressful. Oh, my god, that's a striking metaphor, and accurate, AND mathy. May I virtually hug you?

I'm so glad you liked that! Happy to accept a virtual hug and to return it.

I have to admit, I stole/modified it from something Metherion said. I think he was describing a movie he didn't like, and called it "fractally bad--each part was as bad as the whole thing." I don't know where he got it from, or whether he made it up, but I admire it enormously and try to save it for rare occasions when it is especially appropriate.
