Wow, those are gorgeous! I have to admit, during the reading of this post I wasn't so sure. There were a few pictures that made me say "... that's going to be a chess board eventually? Um... okay!" But that just shows what I know about clay and chessboards, apparently! I'm seriously impressed!

That's the hard part, looking at lumps of clay and seeing the finished product (and then getting there). I imagine we all do it with whatever our specialty is. You look at kids and say, "Could this be Hamlet? Can I pound him into being Hamlet?" or some such.

Ooooh, those turned out WAY better than I expected! That sounded bad. It wasn't meant bad. But 'memeber the one/s you were working on when I was playing with clay? I didn't think those had much contrast. And these definitly do! And they look so professional and nice!

They didn't, which is why I made new tiles which hit more extreme values. You saw the tiles I grouted in blue (before I killed them), as shown in the icon photo. It's all a learning process. I like these better. Even here, though, the camera gives them a little more contrast than they actually have.

dude. AWESOME journal entry.

i'm really glad they turned out the way you planned. i loved that about cermaics the most - you can mess with 'tolerances' - like firing clay higher than prescribed. interesting. i haven't done ceramics in nearly 6 months now, and that was perfect. thanks heaps.

The boards look stunning. i'd love to see one fully set up with pieces!

Thanks! The last of the game pieces are cooling in the kiln now, so I'll do a set up tonight or tomorrow morning. I hope the new animals turn out okay.
