I am very sorry to hear that my choice of setting offended you. It was not my intention in the least to treat the Haiti earthquake lightly or to diminish the devastation of it. I tried my best to treat the topic with respect and frankly, I think I did a decent job of it. Using the setting of a disaster or an epidemic or a war as a backdrop to a 'romance' isn't really that unusual in fiction, based on many of the novels and movies I have read and seen, but obviously it isn't your cup of tea. I agree; these types of fics aren't for everyone.

YOUR WISHES HAVE BEEN CRUSHED! There was also some extra author's note that talked about the amazing timing of the earthquake happening right after signing up and her realizing writing a fucked-up, paternalistic colonialist BB was the "best idea ever." I also see from the anon comm that her last BB involved a Muslim terrorist who became a terrorist because his father was, but he was humanized by loving his white French mother.

I shit you not.

....................WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK????

So I just finished reading the other quotes you linked to, and now this, and......Okay, in all honesty, the setting is the LEAST of her problems! Yes, there have been romances set in historical disasters, with varying degrees of success, (Titanic? Pearl Harbor?) but the difference is that they didn't make the reader/viewer feel like they were DROWNING IN A SEA OF RACIST BULLSHIT. THE FACT THAT SHE DOESN'T EVEN REALIZE WHAT A TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE COW PATTY THIS IS JUST MAKES IT BEYOND HORRIFYING. OMG.

I JUST HONESTLY DON'T KNOW HOW ANYBODY COULD POSSIBLY BE THIS STUPID IN ACTUAL REAL LIFE. DDD:

ETA: I AM SO ANGRY I CAN'T EVEN REPLY TO COMMENTS CORRECTLY.

It just makes me so sad and angry and horrified. How did the tons of people who heard her idea and the tons who were her betas and everybody involved...how did *nobody think for a second that this was a horrible mistake*?

OK profanity has finally failed me as a means of expressing my horror.

Holy crap. Oh man, normally I try not to throw stones because I'm so not-perfect, but the idea of having one's reaction to live coverage of the Haiti earthquake be, "Yay! A setting!" I just... I can't even.:( Not to mention, how could a story set in present day, real Haiti NOT treat race and history/imperialism? I don't understand how you could not realize race is an issue?

Wow. I need to think about this.:(

Yeah, this is *way* beyond not-perfect. It failed on so many, *many* levels (right down to the actual Haitian doctor *fleeing his duties and people* so that Brave And Kind White Man Jensen could come in to save them all).
