Yup, same feelings. I have mortality anxiety, an inability to deal with the immensity of space and time, *and* recurring nighttime panic that usually manifests itself as "THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IN THE ROOM WITH ME RIGHT NOW" followed by heart palpitations etc. etc. SO THANKS A LOT, MOFFAT. I'm pretty sure I missed a lot in the episode (and was therefore confused by it) because I was deliberately trying not to pay too much attention to it so I'd be able to sleep that night. (And then I totally slept with a lamp on for the first time in ages.) Watching it again might help me get it... but nope, no thanks!

Several of my Moffat Hate Train friends have commented about this one like "finally, a proper episode!!" which is only serving to further convince me that I have the Wrong Opinions on everything!

I look forward to next week's more fast-paced episode. Do not look forward to the inevitable "Moffat and his sexy buttoned-up ladies" posts on Tumblr.I do think it's a little weird that he keeps writing the same kind of ( ... )

DDDDDDDD: I'm so sorry. The kid-thing under the coverlet did make me worried that he was going to go to a really bad place for me, but fortunately it just skirted the edge.

I was going to say but forgot, I also agree with you that 12 needs to stop going to the ugly/fat Clara place. For me it worked with 11 because there was so frequently something very alien about him, I believed in his inability to understand human appearance or whatever, but 12 does not give off that vibe and it's just awkward.

You know, intellectually I agree re: the Older Women ... but emotionally, when I see someone going on about how oppressive it is and unoriginal and terrible, I just go to the flaily place. He does have a tendency to overuse certain plot elements, I just wish they could be looked at as "things he tends to overuse" instead of "things that go against the spirit of Doctor Who as a whole based only on RTD's run" and "things that are hideously sexist because I don't personally relate to them".

I saw that stupid bingo card and I just wanted to punch something. This is why I rarely go on tumblr and constantly think about just deleting my account and being done with it. Because no one can sit back and enjoy Doctor Who anymore, it has to be this relentlessly negative stream of hate for everything Moffat touches meanwhile RTD is a perfect special golden unicorn snowflake.

I really loved the episode! I think it's the first Who episode that has genuinely scared me. I like that it left a lot of unanswered questions too (WTF was under that blanket?!?!?) which may or may not be addressed in future. In the end it was about character development rather than the monster of the week and I think it was very well timed.

Also I disagree about Orson being Clara's great grandson. Obviously Clara is freaking out because she thinks he is, but who is to say Danny doesn't take a trip or two on the Tardis at some point? Orson never mentioned which great grandparent it was that was a time traveler ( ... )

I don't even mind the idea of pointing out the plot elements he overuses, but the card is so gross and mean-spirited! Sometimes you just stop watching a show because it's not enjoyable. It's okay. Nobody will make fun of you for not watching it!

Generally I like the episode that are more character-heavy - I wonder if maybe I would have liked it more if it had come right after a more actiony episode.

That's true! Orson could be a total trick.

I see why people feel like it's more about Moffat writing what appeals to him personally (because tbh it probably is), but just because X reviewer doesn't like that doesn't mean that it's objectively gross! I think it does lead to characters being a little too aesthetically similar to each other, but as a trope I find it preferable to RTD's treatment of Jackie and Martha's mum. That said, Moffat would probably not have invented Harriet Jones (but also probably would not have ~defeated her like that).
