A friendly LJ-er posted the promo for this episode last week and also pointed out that this would likely be the hug-in-the-new-credits episode rather than the blow-Spike-up-and-break-me episode. This did not make it easier to watch.
No, it really didn't!
The episodes that make me cry always have a certain point of no return for me, and in this one's the "I have to go." line.
yeah, if they kill Spike, that would just... break the team.

Yeah. He's such a good actor, really, he just hits lines like that perfectly. I suddenly remembered that Spike's dad was dying and he'd pushed to the back of his head while he dealt with the bomb and now everyone was safe and it just hit him. I'm currently on a Mark Sheppard spree but I think Sergio DiZio's past work is next.
Part of me wanted the episode to end on his dad telling Spike that he was proud of him but I'm kind of glad it didn't. Because real life isn't television.
Your icon always makes me think of my high school chemistry teacher because he had red hair and we called him Beaker. ;)
I know I'm going to find more of Sergio's past work too. I have lots of past work of all of the Flashpoint actors ready to rent/stream, but I'm trying to finish some series I've already started first.
I know we didn't get the "I'm proud of you" scene, but at the same time, I think they reached their own peace. The episode did start out with Spike in the hospital room with his dad, and previously, his dad wasn't even eating meals at home with his son. So, I think they made up as best they could without Spike quiting his job.
This ep was utterly amazing and I loved how much TEAM! there was. This show has always been really good at showing how much the characters care about each other, but this ep totally drove it home. Awesome
( ... )
Also, when the team knows Tony is Alexei and they're trying not to set him off, but Spike is also trying to create a relationship with him--the Big Brown Eyes move. Damn. Just, damn.
I know! I always thought that maybe Spike doesn't negotiate because the others are better at it, but then there was the "you doing ok? Good. I want to thank you for all your help. I don't think anyone was supposed to be hurt" etc, and it was EXACTLY right. And the Big Brown Eyes Of Adorableness. And the genuine admiration for a really well-constructed bomb.
