Continuing my research on the dresser and photos

After I cross-posted my entry on the photos to myhappyhome , I got some useful tips on dating my dresser, and, perhaps, dating the photos more accurately. soylentpurple gave me a link that uses furniture handles as a guide for determining a piece of furniture's age. So I looked at my dresser handles.

I was talking about the same thing with my boss on Friday. We were discussing his opinion that the euro specifically and globalization as a whole was a bad thing; that everything in Europe is modern and the same. I was saying that while many things in the major cities are the same, and that not all of them are necessarily good (you can eat at McDonald's almost anywhere in the world) some things are necessary because we all need to speak similar languages (not just verbal) to have truly global communities, which could be a good thing.

But I digress...

I pointed out that even in big cities you can find pockets of history that are distinct from pockets of history in other cities, and that even in NYC you can find a wealth of historical architecture and pieces here and there in people's homes. Walk down any side street in the Financial District and you can learn about New York's history.

Congratulations on dating your dresser. It's always exciting to find a link to the past.
