This article makes me sad, especially so soon after Gabourey Sidibe was nominated for Precious.

Dear Vanity Fair,

Is it really that hard to find actresses of color with upcoming projects? Because if it is, then how do I know that Zoë Saldaña has 4 movies coming out this year-one of which also has Regina Hall, Maggie Q is in Priest, Aimee Garcia ( Read more... )

And Zoë Saldaña has BUZZ right now. She would've fit in perfectly! Dilshad's also a regular on Greek, where I love her lots!

You mentioned to me before that Dilshad's character wouldn't work and seeing all the problems listed out makes it even more incomprehensible. It's just such a stupid, easily fixed mistake.

And what's weird about Zoë not being on this cover is that she was on the cover of the 2008 VF Hollywood edition. It's just frustrating because it's already hard enough for non-white actresses to get roles and decent coverage without Vanity Fair pulling stuff like this.

It really wouldn't have been that hard to fix, which is why I hope the character wasn't originally intended to be Indian and when Dilshad was cast, they were pressed for time and shoehorned some lines about her being third-generation in there. Because otherwise, it means they just didn't care, and that would make me sad.
