UGH, the paranoia regarding the coronavirus is so annoying and insane it's just mind-boggling DX

I haven't heard anything ridiculous firsthand, just bits and pieces that other people are complaining about, ie the toilet paper and hand sanitizer. I got the flu shot last week and had some symptoms over the weekend from it. While I didn't go anywhere (because I felt like crap), if I had I wonder if people would have reacted to an occasional cough or what ( ... )

Isn't it too late to get the flu shot now? In Germany people usually get it done in like October / November. Flu season is almost over here now. And yes, it's quite normal to get such a reaction where you feel sick for a few days, esp. if you haven't had the flu or a flu shot in a very long time. :)
I got one every year when I still lived in Japan.

A lot of countries are rejecting cruise ships with infected people now ... not very much fun for the people on that ship, though. :(

I think with all the panic it's a good thing to stay calm and NOT make a big deal out of it, but as you say use your brain / common sense and take all the necessary precautions to make sure the ones in risk groups aren't being affected. :(

That cherry blossom tree is so cute!

Overall the situation has been poorly handled. People in Australia tend to stock up more because we have so many natural disasters and power outages, but the government has provided conflicting or confusing advice like "don't stockpile" but also "please have enough food / medication / etc" for quarantine. The advice should have been buy a few extras of what you usually buy over several months, not just for the virus, but because it's good to be prepared for emergencies, of which there are many here in this country. When I lived in a rural area up north we could lose power for days sometimes, and we typically lost it every few weeks. It was a nightmare for having food spoil.

Hope you can travel! We are supposed to go to Poland in June. :(

It is. I got it from a former co-worker in Japan. She sent it with a letter. I love it so much. ^^

People are stupid. Even with exact advice, they still panic and don't use their brains. Like the WHO and the government have published recommended amounts for stocking up, but if people would have only bought as much as listed have suggested, there's no way all the shelves are no empty. ;)

Poland does look quite good with their numbers at the moment, but if the numbers get higher in your country you might get denied entry. But at this point it's absolutely impossible to know what will happen. We all can just wait and hope for the best. :/

There are probably only 2 cases of corona in my home state, but they are confined. I'm not super worried about it spreading here though. I just think it's funny how many people are panicking. Like it's a 28 Days Later thing. I think what scares them is that this virus popped up in several different countries without people coming in contact with anyone infected. I wonder if it can be spread through food too, since I think food gets shipped around a lot more than people do. But that's just my two cents.

I have been washing my hands longer than normal, but that's because I don't want to get something else.

I can see why Japan is taking such precautions even if they don't make sense. It's a densely populated country, and they're an island on top of that. They're doing all they can to keep the numbers down.

Well, if you eat infected food, e.g. an infected person touched their nose / coughed into their hands and then touched food that later you eat (e.g. from a bakery) then of course that could get you infected. You don't need an infected person next to you. It's enough to touch a door knob somewhere and then you touch your face. Boom, infection.

I still don't believe those numbers in Japan, though.
The European soccer championship has already been postponed to next year. I'm quite sure the same will happen to the Olympics. I don't think Japan will lose the Olympics this time. Cancelling shouldn't be an option, but postponing will be their only choice. Even if Japan's numbers stay that low, all other countries will get more and more infected people and will not be allowed to travel to Japan for the Olympics, so ... yeah ... ^^;

I hope Japan just postpones the Olympics. It would be a huge thing if they didn't happen. Besides, I want to see Arashi perform for them even though there hasn't been talk about that. I also want to see Sho Sakurai report for News Zero.

Yeah, I hope so, too. I can't imagine they'd completely cancel it, though. We'll see. :)

I completely get the protection of the vulnerable old and young! but yes I've been seeing people panic buy and wipe out stocks of hand sanitisers and rice e.t.c it is beyond crazy. Why do people need so many toilet rolls?

another down side is Asians are very much affected and being treated like they have the plague and it's terrible the amount of racism that's happening.

I wonder if they think they can eat toilet paper? Or maybe they want to make facial masks out of it? I really have no idea, but honestly people like that are insane. I've talked to my friends over the weekend and they said they couldn't care less if they were alone, but as they have little children they at least wanted to make sure they have enough food for the kids who are picky eaters. I understand that. I understand you have to think a bit more ahead with kids, but still panic is not needed. :)

I haven't noticed any discrimination of Asians here. The other day when I went ice-skating there was a cute Asian family with their little daughter and they were treated absolutely normal. I think not everybody is braindead yet, luckily.
