[Japan Travel]: Kumamoto - Day 1

Oct 03, 2008 09:13

Okay,

now that I have my internet back, I guess it's time to continue with my photo posts of my August vacation. I'm sorry for the long wait. Hope you enjoy.

So after Nagasaki I went straight to Kumamoto (熊本) which is also in Kyushu.
Compared to Nagasaki it was still nice, but kind of boring (I said COMPARED, okay? ;P
)

Kumamoto - Day 1 (August 12th, 2008):

I left Nagasaki early in the morning and arrived in Kumamoto around noon. I went to my hotel, checked in, had lunch and then went straight to Kumamoto Castle.

Kumamoto Castle is pretty huge, so there was a lot of walking around that day XD

Still not even close. I love those walls!

Maybe I took too many photos of this castle, but I love Japanese castles! It can't be helped ^^; ...

Compared to other castles I've seen so far, the inside of Kumamoto Castle is actually kind of interesting! XD

Wooden miniature of the castle.

I can't remember how many floors there were, but this floor was really interesting! There were photos of ALL the castles in Japan. Of course I took photos of all of them and checked where I have already been and where I want to go in the future ^-^;

Soooooo many!

Well ... of course I have to check out Matsumoto Castle and if it's ONLY for the name! XDDDD
(but it looks really nice, too, don't you think? :))

And even more I wanna visit NAKATSU Castle for obvious reasons (if not, hint: Hanakimi XD)

I didn't know there was a castle in Kokura (which is not sooo far from where I live. It's in North Kyushu). So that's when I decided to make a brief stop in Kokura on my last day before returning home ^^

Something all castles I've visited so far have in common is that you can take awesome photos from the top floor. And that's what I did here, too, of course :D

The weather was a little bit strange this day. Mostly cloudy, a little bit of rain, too.

As far as I know the flower on the roof here represents the clan in that area. I'm not sure what it was for Kumamoto.
Satsuma was only in Kagoshima, right? Where are the experts?? If you know please let us know ^^; (no time to investigate this matter any further, although she's really interested.)

Anyway ... Kumamoto is not really what I would call a "beautiful" city. It's nice and all ... and because of the castle worth a visit, but there are better places in Japan.

I really like this photo: esp. the color of the sky in the background.

I think there's no need for a comment, huh? ;P

Yay, let's throw some stones at people! :D

I almost spend half the day at Kumamoto Castle as there was really a lot of stuff to see.
There were other things on my schedule this day, so I moved on in the late afternoon to get to the other places before deadline XD In Japan everything closes so early (museums, temples etc.)

Random photo on my way.

This was the former residence of Hosokawa Gyobu (at least I think so XD). Really interesting.

Everything in there was really beautiful, calm, relaxing, Japanese-styled.

Yay, Go! And I suck at playing it!

Anyway, the residence was small, so not many photos.
After that I went to the last stop on my schedule for that day.

Suizenji Park. A BEAUTIFUL place! Maybe the prettiest spot in whole Kumamoto (^^') ...

Is it just me or does this look like a drawn picture? o__O; ... Amazing!

There was also a temple.

Anyone saw the show where Eiji Wentz had to fill empty bottles with water from different shrines/temples etc.? XD ...

A really beautiful temple. (I'm using "beautiful" too often today, right? XD)

KYAAAAAAAAAH!!! And here they are again!! Why are they always EVERYWHERE!! ;___; .....

.... but I couldn't resist and went through ;P

Yah, it was of course an Inari shrine. But this was kind of cute, so I took a photo.

And then it started to rain. Somehow it was really beaut .... NICE! (XD) to look at the park while it was raining.

And a rainbow! ^-^ Uh ... wait .... I saw a rainbow in Nagasaki, too! That's getting scary! XD

Anyway it was already late 6.30pm or something, so everything interesting was closed by then. I decided to go into the huge shopping arcade near my hotel to eat dinner.

... but before that I went to Animate as I was not sure if they close at 7pm or not XDDD

I found a traditional Japanese restaurant, because I wanted to eat what you can see in this picture. It's a speciality in Kumamoto and stupid me forgot the name.
If you know, please tell me and I'll edit this entry and put the name in here XD

And that was my "real" dinner :D Damn I was hungry <3

After dinner I had some strength again and decided to check out the arcade some more. I found these cute turtles in a small bakery. KYAH! <333

I went to Häagen Dazs for the first time in my life (do we even have stores/cafés like that in Germany??). I decided to get a green tea / azuki bean one.

Random shot of one of the various game centers there. I want that huge Rira-chan XD (Joking!)

Uhm ... and even more turtles o__O ....

No comment! XD

I went to Starbucks in ALL the cities I went to, because there is none where I live ;_____;
Starbucks overdose during my vacation? No way in hell! XD

It was already kind of late, so I decided to leave the arcade.

Good night, Kumamoto!

Camera used:
Sony Cybershot DSC-W1

And that's it. Hope you enjoyed the photos :)
Day 2 in Kumamoto was not .... really spent in Kumamoto as I went to see Aso-san, an active volcano. I hope you're looking forward to the next post (day 2).

Time for a coffee/sweet pan (I loves Japanese pan with its fillings <333) break :D

Bye~chu~
