... but I'd just like to record a couple of factoids about my DS, Tom, who has just had his AS results. (For those of you unfamiliar with the English school system, AS Level comes AFTER GCSEs (which are taken at about age 16) and are the first year of A levels, so become BEFORE A2s (which are taken at 18). Or, in Harry Potter terms, after OWLs and ( Read more... )

YAY FOR YOUR BOY!!!!

I think that you should give him what is left of your Reese's Cups instead of hording them away for Easter! Hmmm?

What is ICT?
What do they study in Business Studies?

You said his college...is that like our colleges or is that something else?

How old is your boy? You give me hope for my lazy but clever son.

Jonathan is 14 and in the 8th grade. He's a good boy but he's just not motivated to push himself and excell. He can get B's without having to work or study much and that is good enough for him. We like the school(small, private Christian school) he is at but I think that, in a way, it is part of the problem. It's very small. Tiny. In his eighth grade class there are only four students - two boys and two girls - and he is by far the smartest out of all of them so he doesn't have to work to stay at the top of his class. Even his teachers agree with me on that. He and his best friend used to compete for the best grades but then the friend had to move. Sometimes I wish there was another option for a school to send him to around here but we don't want to send him to the public high school. (Two blocks from our house but it is a zoo. I know. I used to work there.) There's also the Catholic high school but I'd rather send him to the public school than there. My daughter went there for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and she was miserable. Yes, Tom was exactly the same - very competitive and then ran out of people to be competitive with. He went to the local Catholic comprehensive and he did sweet f.a. in the first two years - and the teachers kept moving him down sets because he wasn't doing the work - and they thought it was because it was too hard for him. *Rolls eyes* Luckily, in the third year, they realised that they were making things even worse by doing that because it was all too easy for him, so they moved him back up to the top sets and suddenly he did well again ( ... )
