I've only seen 3 or 4 eps so far and it's okay. The cases aren't really that interesting and the characters haven't grown on me enough yet to overlook that. I'll keep watching, but I hope it will improve a bit. So far I'm not convinced.

Yeah, the cases aren't all that but, to be honest, I barely notice them since I'm focused on the Sherlock/Joan relationship. (Not as a ship but as how they interact.) I think it took me four or five episodes before I decided I LIKED it so maybe give it a couple more chances. By that point the characters are going to grab you or they won't.

I admit, when I first saw the commercials, I was one of those people who were making those complaints. A female Watson? Sherlock in America? The US really needs to stop [badly] adapting UK shows, etc.

But then I actually watched it and I LOVE IT. Like, a lot. I have three shows that I really like and HAVE to watch every week: TBBT, Criminal Minds, and Elementary.

I think it's come along really well and I'm looking forward to see where it goes. And I didn't know it was already set for 24 episodes! I was wondering what would happen when her six weeks were over, so that's a comfort. I hope you're right about their arc, too! I agree with all that you said about it--I love how Sherlock is and how Watson complements him. I think I might--*gasp*--actually like it better than the BBC version.

PS: Have you come across any good fic for Elementary? I've seen a few that I like, but for some reason (I guess due to the first episode), everyone is putting them into BDSM and...that's just not what I'm really in the mood for, you know?

To be honest I wasn't sure about it either, mainly for the remake Americanization thing. It usually goes badly! However, they were very smart about who they picked for the lead roles and, let's face it, Holmes-esque procedurals are squarely in the American tv comfort zone. We're GOOD at them! The big difference here is the name and the closer connection.

This version has more space to stretch out in so they can get into characterization more. And I think it's warmer than Sherlock. It's less intellectual puzzles and more about how these two people are broken.
