Day 11 - Doctor Who Meme - Your Favorite Season (Classic or New)

Sep 27, 2010 21:30

Out of the seasons I have seen (and I certainly have not seen them all as yet), Season 4 of New Who quite definitely gets my vote here! This is the first season of Doctor Who that I watched along with fandom and that certainly helps give it a bit of a boost in the rankings but I'd love this season either way.

I whole-heartedly approve! And that's a really amazing picture of them as well!

I'd never have connected the children theme of season 4. Hmm.

I love the mirroring they used in that photoshoot. No messing with either one of them!

I noticed the children theme when I was watching but never really posted about it. It threads all through the season just like the power of memory is so important for season 5.

It does work really well--that one's probably my favorite promo/photoshoot picture because of it.

After you mentioned it, I do see it, thinking back over the episodes. I love the subtle moves they make sometimes. :)
I think I might indulge in some Who this week, if I have the time. It's been a while and I have a craving!

I've been thinking about it more lately since I've been reading meta about season 5 and there is this sense (from the meta writers) that RTD's seasons were all surface while Moffat has all these deep layers. They both have silly, obvious surface and deeper layers!

This season was also my choice.
Its just...win.

I love that theme you picked out of it! No wonder I love it so...

There's just so much going in this season! We have Donna, and Martha, and Rose coming back. The mystery of the planets disappearing and the on-going theme of reproduction that ties it all together. \o/

Yea. It was definitely that big theme that got me.
I mean, the way the companions are brought together are great and everything, but they end up being such a smaller part of it compared to whats going on with Donna.

I never noticed that about the theme of children in Season 4, but you're completely right, of course. Brilliant.

Hmm, maybe it is time for me to rewatch! A bunch of those episodes I only saw once.

The theme came to me about halfway through the season but I never managed to write-up a meta about it. Maybe I'll expand on it tonight after Chicklet is in bed.

I actually have thoughts in my head about the theme of each of RTD's seasons that I've never talked about. (S1 - change and becoming something new, S2 - separation and loss, S3 - what it means to be human or time lord or dalek)

Oh my god, I remember talking about reproduction and children and parenthood during s4, along with planets disappearing and disappearing people.

I remember that too! I never did write anything up about it though. :D

I wholeheartedly endorse your vote!

This-

It is really too bad that the Doctor's self-loathing got in the way of him being able to appreciate that it is not weapons he turns people into but heroes.

*wibble* - very true.

It's one of those times I've wanted to shake him. 'Don't you see? You're not destroying them!' But he doesn't see. Poor Ten. He's so blind sometimes.
