The Official US Life on Mars Community is run by idiots

Oct 15, 2008 12:01

Okay, lifeonmarsabc just friended me for my review post on the UK version. That's fine, can't stop them. Though they may have wanted to check my opinion on the US version. Hey, in case you're looking, it's not good! But now they've spammed my review with a perky PR message encouraging me to watch the remake. ICK! *goes off to delete the comment and figure out ( Read more... )

I wholeheartedly agree. They friended me as well, possibly because I did an entry that was essentially a longwinded life on mars inspired flight of fancy that ended with my complete renouncement of the new US version. Blindly friending people who don't even like the thing your community is about is not a good.

Yeah, friending people for writing rants about the show is not smart. Very annoying. This is not the way to spread the word about your show.

Well...that's extremely not cool.

My parents have watched most of the original thus far and just for shits and giggles decided to watch the US version. They called me all flummoxed the next day like, "Um, what was the point of that? Please explain."

I had no explanation for them.

I know! Message has been deleted and they are banned!

Now I have a desire to watch the premiere of the US version just to say nasty things about it. *g*

My parents reported that it's like....an attempted exact copy of the original. And I have to say, I saw one of the promos and (except for that irritating deep gravelly announcer voice saying really ridiculous and overwrought things) it looked like it was a shot-for-shot copy. Like same camera angles, same colour palette, everything.

That's just....weird. My parents said they fell asleep watching it because they were like, "Um we've seen this already? We know how it ends."

Actually, they kind of changed the ending of it. *groans*

Since it is a user and not a comm it smells a lot like a PR slog working on viral marketing. The Whoverse comms and users had a similar issue with a showtime sponosored "Diary of a Call Girl" user a while back.

That makes sense. It's like they heard the term 'viral marketing' and then decided to do it without figuring out how it works.

I'm glad my post on the subject of LoM was friends-locked, because I have no tolerance for some rubbish PR message (unless PR = Project Runway, in which case there's no way it could be rubbish) as the only response to what I thought a well-thought-out post...

As for the act of banz0ring, here is a guide. I've had to do it before and it's no fun, but surprisingly easy. Whenever I go into the admin console I feel like a big programmer girl or something, it's awesome.

I'm sure that they got me by monitoring the john simm community since that's where I posted a link to my review. Still annoying! Thanks for the info but I've already banned them, which was easier than I thought it was. So now I can just ignore their existence.

And apparently now I have been friended because I commented here.

So I left a nasty comment on their lj.

Oooh, good on you! That would weird me out, especially with all this journal hacking stuff that people keep mentioning. It is tempting me to go friends only, if only for a while.

I need to learn how to ban people...

Well, they weren't hacking me, just being idiots. But I did feel weird about it anyway. Would friends only help hacking issues? I know it would help this, but I want people to read my reviews so I'll deal with it.

Also, banning is completely easy. I just went to the FAQ, looked up banning, hit the link they gave, and typed in the username. Took 2 minutes.
