They were going to get them. Chloe held on to Oliver's hand as tightly as she could, they were running but it was getting so dark around them, she couldn't see the ground anymore, she was so afraid to trip, and then they would get them, they were so close and suddenly, Oliver was gone, she called out for him on top of her lungs, but her voice ( Read more... )

The sound of a frightened scream tore through Oliver's haze of sleep and he jumped, quickly reaching out to flip on the lamp by the bed. His heart was pounding heavily against his chest as he turned to look at her. She was sitting straight up, her face drained of all color. "Chloe?" He reached out and gently rested a hand on her shoulder. "Easy," he whispered. Her eyes were wild, filled with fear. "Hey, it's okay." He shifted positions and gently wrapped his arms around her in a hug.

It had been like this for the past three nights. She'd awaken from a nightmare, either screaming or crying out for him. He wasn't sure which was more upsetting. The first night, Bart had raced into the room, afraid someone had somehow managed to get in, and all three of them had remained awake for nearly two hours after.

Now, he heard footsteps pause just outside the door. He glanced toward it. "It's all right, Bart," he said quietly, then turned his attention back to Chloe. He pressed a kiss to her temple. "It's all right, Chloe."

For a long moment, she couldn't make sense of things and then, slowly she realized where she was, Chloe took deep calming breaths and leaned into Oliver, wrapping her arms around him, still shaking.

He closed his eyes, gently stroking her hair as he held her. "I've got you," he whispered, kissing her forehead. After a few moments, when she finally began to relax against him, he rested his chin atop her head. "Do you want to talk about it?" His voice was quiet. Every night he asked, and every night she'd told him no.

She shook her head, closing her eyes tightly again as she hid her face against his chest, "no" her voice was just a soft whisper when she spoke, the images from her nightmare still in her head and she couldn't shake off the feeling the dream had given her.

She took a deep breath and kept her eyes on the bed for a second then looked over at him, "before I tell you anything, I don't want you to get upset over this, it happened a long time ago," she held his gaze, serious when she spoke, she knew Oliver was protective of her and knew that whatever bothered her was probably going to upset him regardless of what she asked him, but still, she wanted to prepare him.

He already didn't like the sound of that. Whatever she was about to tell him was going to be bad. He drew in a breath and let it out slowly. "I'll do my best," he promised, squeezing her knee lightly.

Chloe nodded, looking at him for a moment then shifting on the bed carefully not to hurt herself, she placed her hand over his and squeezed it gently, "when I was in high school, one of the Smallville cops went crazy, he kidnapped me and held me hostage for days, he planned on 'rescuing' me after a few days so he would be the town hero."

She paused, taking a deep breath and shaking her head, "his plans didn't work out, so he had to change them, instead he decided he was going to-" She paused again, shifting on the bed again, looking down, "he found a coffin and buried me, I was awake the whole time." She shuddered a little, her voice breaking, "it took Clark a while to find me."

Oliver felt his face drain of color at her words, at the mental imagery that flashed before him. "Jesus, Chloe," he whispered, shifting closer to her and carefully wrapping an arm around her waist in what he hoped was a comforting gesture. He pressed a kiss to her temple, feeling the shudder from her cause him to shudder as well. "No wonder you had nightmares. I can't imagine."

Then it dawned on him why this was haunting her now and he tensed. "Goddammit." The bastards had locked her in the trunk. For hours. It had taken him too long to find her, just like it had taken Clark too long.

"When Bart ran you to the hospital," he admitted quietly. "I couldn't just let him get by with it, Chloe." He gazed at her intently. "And maybe next time he'll think twice about who he decides to abduct, beat and lock in a car trunk." He tensed involuntarily and looked away for a moment. "I just wish there'd been enough trunk space for all of them. They sure as hell deserve it."

All she could do was stare at him for a moment then shake her head a little, leaning her face closer to his and brushing her nose against his, closing her eyes, "he is where he belongs, but next time, I don't want you risking yourself because someone did something to me, Oliver."

"Well, it wasn't really risking anything considering Bart had knocked all of them unconscious. When I dragged him out of the warehouse, he was still mostly out of it." He shrugged a little. "And I checked to make sure he didn't have any weapons on him." He kissed her very softly.

Chloe sighed softly when she broke the kiss and shook her head, smiling slightly, opening her eyes after a second to look at him, "you're impossible." She murmured lifting a hand to cup his cheek.

Oliver slid his fingers into her hair and kissed the corner of her mouth in return. "Yeah. I really do." He shut his eyes. "You stand up for what's right." He kissed her again. "My dad would have been impressed with your journalistic integrity and my mom by your kindness and good heart. And of course, they would both have been amazed by how courageous and beautiful you are." His voice was quiet, sincere.

Chloe watched him as he spoke, her fingers caressing his face softly as he listened, her heart tight, "I wish I could have met them." Her voice was as quiet as his when she spoke and a little choked up, "I'm sure I would have liked them a lot too, they must have been amazing to have a son like you."

He felt his own eyes water a little and he blinked a few times, a sad smile touching his lips. "They were amazing," he murmured, rubbing his thumb lightly over the back of her hand. "Couldn't have had better parents." He met her eyes for a moment. "I wish you could have met them too. And I wish they could have met you."

She nodded, looking at him and smiling softly for a long moment before leaning in and wrapping her arms tightly around, tears rolling down her cheek as turned her face, kissing his cheek then moving her mouth closer to his ear, speaking quietly "I love you, Ollie." She smiled a little more at the nickname, hugging him to her.

She wished she could change things, make things different for him, give him time to grow up with his parents, but all she could do was be there for him now and she wasn't going to disappoint him, she was going to comfort him as well as she could.
