She had just hung up the phone with her editor then made her way back to the living room. She knew he wasn't happy with her since she hadn't been to the office for over a week now, but the news that she and Ollie had adopted Bell would have to wait until they were done upgrading security even more because Lex was obviously looking for her already

Oliver unlocked the door and stepped inside the penthouse, pausing when he caught sight of the little girl on the floor by Chloe's legs, and then he looked up at his wife. "Hi," he said, keeping his voice soft because he didn't want to startle either of them.

They had made a little progress in that Bell no longer screamed if he came within a couple feet of her, which was good. But when it came down to it, he was scared to touch her. He was afraid he'd upset her.

Chloe looked up from her laptop and frowned a little when she saw him, "hey," she greeted then looked down at the clock on her computer and back, "you're home early."

He nodded a little. "Yeah, I finished up sooner than I expected," he told her. Which was true. But he'd also rushed through the work because the idea of leaving Chloe and Bell home alone left him unsettled. Especially since they suspected that Lex was looking for them. "How's it going?" He set his keys down on the small table by the door and then set his briefcase on the floor.

She took a moment to finish up what she had been working on and send it to Vic before setting her laptop on the coffee table, "really quiet," she admitted, looking down at Bell then back at him.

She had gotten very attached to the child during the days she spent with her pretty much glued to her side at the farm, but after everything they found out about her, she didn't want to be away from her if she could help it anytime in the near future.

He frowned a little at that, looking up at her. "Chloe, are you sure you want to do that? I'm sure we could find another solution if we sat down and discussed it."

"I'm not going to quit completely," she said, cocking her head as she looked down at him, "but I can't leave her alone, and I can't bring her in without getting a lot of attention from my co-workers."

"Besides, reporting isn't anywhere near my top priority at the moment."

Oliver held his breath for a moment, squeezing her knee again once more. "I just don't want you to feel like you're losing yourself," he whispered. "I know how much you love your job."

Chloe pursed her lips together and nodded slightly, "which is why I don't want to quit completely and I think when I tell my editor our cover up story for her, he might be a lot more understanding, but while I can do research from here and even lighter field work I can take her with me, I can't really go interview people or go to conferences or anything like that, at least not for a while."

Chloe nodded and smiled at him, setting Bell on the floor and standing up too before making her way to the couch, "okay, come on," she told both of them, "let's get comfortable."

Oliver watched as Bell climbed up on the sofa beside Chloe and laid her head down on Chloe's shoulder. A soft smile appeared on his lips and he slowly moved over to sit down with them. He sat down on Chloe's other side, leaning over and pressing a kiss to her temple. "I love you," he whispered.

Chloe wrapped an arm around Bell and pulled her close then turned her head and kissed Ollie softly on the lips, "I love you too," she whispered back to him then looked down at Bell who was staring up at them. "I love both of you."

Bell simply gazed up at her, her eyes a little brighter than usual.
