He winced a little, quickly dumping the ice pack into the bathroom sink. "Hey," he called back. "How was shopping?"

"Hey," she said, smiling at him as she started toward their bedroom, "it was good, not very productive, but it was nice."

"Well, we could always hop on the jet and fly to New York. They have some pretty good shopping places."

"Maybe eventually, it's too cold up there rig--" Chloe stilled when she saw the bruise on his face the instant her eyes fell on him and she dropped the bags to the floor, "what happened?"

He pulled her close with his other arm, pressing a kiss to her temple. "You're my life," he whispered.

She closed her eyes, leaning closer to him for a moment then looking up at him again, tears running down her face, "promise?"

"I swear it," he whispered, dipping his head and kissing her softly on the mouth.

Chloe took a deep breath then kissed him back, letting go of his wrist and wrapping her arms around him, holding on to him tightly.
