Some Truth

A few years ago, I wrote an entry for LJ Idol writing about giving up my Mary Kay directorship. I really did feel like a failure, and my friends were all so wonderfully supportive that it really made me feel better. I had not yet announced my intention to go into real estate training. It's hard to believe it's been three years since then ( Read more... )

Courtney,

I have not yet found a skin care system to replace what I was using, but I am still going through what I have. In terms of color cosmetics, foundation, brushes, etc., I have found replacements that I *love* and that are of significantly higher quality. Body stuff, I have been using Lush for a few years now.

My new favorite foundation is Bare Minerals. My new favorite mascara is DiorShow. My new favorite eye shadow is from Too Faced. I love Sephora and have not had so much fun with makeup in a very long time.

I really believed that since MK had a mineral foundation, it had to be as good or better. OH MY GOSH. Bare Minerals is awesome. I love doing the whole process of foundation, warmth, mineral veil. I think I'm addicted to mineral veil actually :)

Have you seen http://www.pinktruth.com/ ?

I'm sorry to hear how hard this was for you. I would see your posts and think that maybe you were one of the mythical few 'successful' MK people. I guess they really are like unicorns. [Pink unicorns?]

Life is full of crap and joy, ups and downs. You make mistakes, you move on, life keeps going. Concentrate on the ups and the joy, in the end it's what's important.

Indeed. One of the big BIG things they tell you is "fake it till you make it." I never lied on here, in that I really believed when I was getting into director status that everything was awesome. After all, Directors are the top 2% of the company. It was not until recently that I understood the extent of director turnover, and my failing was not entirely my fault.

I have been on Pink Truth for about 2 months, and found SO MANY people who went through the exact same thing. Their stories could have literally been mine.

I'd always been interested in programs like Avon and Mary Kay. But I never thought I'd have the willpower or stamina to actually make any money out of it. This was a good read. Thanks for your honest post.

Thanks for reading. I may post more about how there's no good way to do the business, but not today (too tired!)

Wow..... Honesty..... I'm sure you'll get sh&t for this but to me it sounds like you've learned a really valuable lesson.

I'm also curious about whether you'll continue using mk products.

I am burning through my skin care stuff and need to find a replacement, but Maggie took me to Sephora and we found New and Fabulous stuff to replace the makeup :)

My mil who's a derm recommends olay regenerist skincare products. So does consumer reports!

Also, if you have a bare escentuals store at a mall near you, they sell the BM foundation at sephora's price but also offer a frequent buyers card that gets you $10 off for each $100 spent. It's a good deal. I've tried cheaper mineral foundations from the drugstore and they really don't compare to BM's foundation! However I do hit sephora for items like lipliner and mascara where I don't care to pay bare escentuals prices.
