After having just gone through the job hunt thing myself, I was *amazed* at how slow everyone was about it. As if no one on earth ever needs to have a job *now* rather than "someday". In fact, I just yesterday received a postcard in the mail from one of the places I applied, letting me know they had chosen someone else.... at least 6-8 weeks after I applied!! I don't know why it's like this - probably just because in our areas, the employers can afford to be picky and take their time - and of course, you can't ever seem to count on someone actually thinking about someone else's situation.
Yeah, no kidding, huh? I remember when my sister was doing the job hunt as well, so I pretty much knew it would be like this. It still sucks.
One thing in my favor is we're just about a month away from the start of the Christmas rush. So if I can't find a permanent position somewhere by then, about the start of November all the retail chains will be begging for help.
