Three Movies

I used to post more about movies I was watching, I haven't been doing that as much anymore. Don't really know why I fell out of the habit, because I actually like talking abut movies (even as I know that most people here will not appreciate my strange taste ( Read more... )

I felt that way about Watchmen too, for no apparent reason. I wonder why. Sannion was aghast, as he loved it. However, I *did* love Brokeback Mountain and had no problem with the slow pacing, because it seemed appropriate there. So I have no idea.

Might have to check out Thirst. I'm with you on non-erotic vampires. I keep hoping someone will make a vampire movie with traditional, Slavic types of vampires, where they are these awful decaying creatures that are strongest not only at midnight but at midday (will get you when you're taking a rest in the fields).

Dominic was rather aghast too, he loved Watchmen and also thought I would. I could tell that they had pretty much copied the graphic novel almost exactly even before he told me, and there are definitely some things (like completely derailing the main story for about thirty minutes worth of character developing flash backs and back story) that work in a graphic novel and not so much in a movie. Also apparently the (in my opinion) painfully gimmicky soundtrack also came out of the book, and maybe its less annoying when you don't have to listen to it. But if that was all I might have been able to forgive it, I've forgiven movies for things like that before. I just don't know. *shrug ( ... )

That was the first Star Trek (or first thing based on Gene Roddenberry's work period) that I had ever been able to sit through; I can like sci-fi and even very technical kind of sci-fi, under the right circumstances. I was only vaguely familiar with any discrepancies, but I was satisfied with how they handled the disruptive time line. And I get to a large degree that this was New Star Trek Part One: The Explanation; most time was spent establishing events for the new series, it won't have much of a story beyond that. I do still think they could have done something better with the Romulans ( ... )
