I don't know how familiar you are with mainstream Asatru but it's pretty wanktastic. People have an allergic reaction to magick, mysticism, and Jotnar. Gods forbid the Gods actually talk to people and intervene in people's lives, and Heathenry is for something other than white supremacy. OH NOES. ;P

And believe me, I understand. I know comparative mythology, like I do understand who different Greek and Celtic Deities are, but They really... didn't want me in my Wiccan days, and Team Norse snatched me up immediately, much to my dismay ("Do I have to become a nazi? Do I have to wear a horned helmet and steel tits?")
Basically I identify as Heathen but not Asatru: many Asatruar are badly racist, queerphobic, and so on. I know there's wankity wank wank no matter where you hang out within Paganism but at least most Hellenic folks won't get you on an FBI hate watch list. Srsly.

Or the significance of being called a Vanic wackadoo by the same people hailing the Vanir?
The first is people who use "Aesir" as a catch-all term to hail Odin, Thor, Frigga, Those Gods, and "Vanir" for Frey, Freyja, Njord, etc.
The significance of the second is that I am Vanir-focused and I think it's odd that people who separate the Aesir and the Vanir in Blot-hails are then turning it around on me like I'm "doing it wrong".
Curiosity is fine. ;P

It just seems odd that people hailing those Deities have called me a wackadoo for honoring the same Deities. But then these are also the same people who think somehow the Nine Noble Virtues came down off some mountain in Iceland on a stone tablet (being mostly sarcastic, but I do find some of the things Heathens insist are "strict recon" as being ahistorical).
