Now here's a dilemma

There are two things Hermes made very clear to me that I will need to work on first before anything deeper can happen, and they're things I should work on anyway regardless of how far I choose to take things ( Read more... )

loki, odin, ritual, gods, hermes

Well, the funny thing about Wodensdaeg is that it's not actually, originally, German.

The earliest we know about having days of the week (or even "weeks") in Germanic lands is when the Romans rolled through--well, I think it was England, but I don't have my resources to hand. Anyway, Odin is there because the Romans figured that Odin and Mercury were more-or-less the same guy (and both more-or-less the same as Hermes)--grubby fingerprints that they left all over the rest of the weekday names as well.

The only days I can think that would be special to Loki are Friday the Thirteenth and April Fools' Day...which probably weren't what you had in mind.

How about you stick one each at Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, to give a nice, even rhythm to things? Who goes on which day--well, that's between you and the gentlemen. I am not sticking my foot in that!

I would place Hermes on Friday or Saturday nights because worship naturally corresponds with all of the individuals gambling away their paychecks on those evenings.

You could alternate Wednesdays; Hermes one week then Odin the next.

I would say Hermes has a closer tie to Wednesday (it's the middle of the work week, sort of a crossroads, as lwood pointed out the name was more about Hermes/Mercury than Odin anyway, and if you start the week on Sunday it's the fourth day). I might put Loki on Friday (yay, week's over, we're free to wreak havoc!), not sure about Odin. You could do a divination. Or just assign them days, and see how it works out for a few weeks, making adjustments as necessary.
