I just got a MacBook from work yesterday. Think I like it. :) A little review ( Read more... )

Yeah, well. :)

For virtual desktops, there have been freeware apps available
for ages. Apple indeed not only was quite slow in adopting the
concept (how old is it anyway?), but -- still indeed -- then
even failed copying the feature properly. The aforementioned
freeware apps do as flawless a job as your desktop could,
though, Gnomeboy.

The dock is a program you'll always have to customize one time
at first use, and only rarely afterwards. Don't tell me your
Linux desktop in its default state gave you exactly what you
needed. If it did, a previous baseball bat once must have had
left its traces already. :p

As for the keyboard: I never seem to remember how to get a
tilde when I need one (except via the character chooser, which
isn't a comfortable task (as it should be, by default, so I
might, and hope to be overlooking something)).

Enjoy your shiny new toy, of course! Don't stick it up places
and don't fall asleep on it.

I agree that you should customize the dock, but my complaint (and it was a very minor one) was two-fold: 1) the defaut set of applications in the dock, apart from Apple trying to promote their range of i-* apps, looked kind of arbitrary to me, and 2) there's no "easy" way of accessing the other applications, except through the Applications folder. I expected to find some kind of application menu in the Apple menu, and was surprised not to find one.

As for the keyboard: I have a qwerty lay-out, so I can type a ~ quite easily. ;)

Why on earth does the enter key in Finder not launch the selected app? Not all people like to double-click an icon to open an app/document...
