I feel old :-s (warning: long but NOT depressing post)

This weekend I was looking for stuff to do each night and I realized that a lot of the people I like to hang with on normal occasion usually like to do things that I find really immature :-s For instance, Pink (the same Pink that indirectly called me immature 2 weeks ago) was talking to Dustin and I about her night and how she was so plastered ( Read more... )

Sex is a base physiological need! srodseph April 20 2008, 21:03:01 UTC
According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, "higher needs in this hierarchy only come into focus when the lower needs in the pyramid are satisfied."

I learned about this theory of human motivation in Child Development during my freshman year of high school. You may disagree, but that's how I feel.

In that chart, sex is listed twice: once as a physiological (base) and once as a social (middle). It is barely mentioned and not talked about in the base level, but is put more into focus in the middle level. Therefor, I stand that it is NOT a base need, aside from the need to procreate to keep the human race alive, but is really a social need that less important than financial security or health.

Ok...unless you're spending all your money on hookers with STDs and not using protection, it's probably not going to damage your financial security or health if you're careful. I probably shouldn't take this too personally, but do you think I do that? I try to make decisions based on what's healthy, legal, not going to interfere with my goals, and safe.

My point wasn't that you are damaging your safety or welfare through it, I'm merely refuting that it's a base need. It was not an attack on you as a person at all. Just stating my opinion based on something you informed me of.

I don't think you're crazy srodseph April 20 2008, 23:28:28 UTC
It's very romantic and adult of you to be looking for an emotional bond rather than a physical one. As long as you don't hurt anyone, I think it's fine to be anywhere on the spectrum of wanting a highly physical to highly emotional interaction with another human being.
