Well, he's my best mate, but he sorta died in front of me a few years ago and changed into the other Doctor.

[thinks] Even with Polyjuice Potion, a change like that is only temporary. Unless he found a permanent way to make the shift.

He changed, yeah. Regenerated. It's....well, a way of cheating death. It's a Time Lord thing. Instead of dying, he changed his body into a new one.
