Wal-Mart Manager Admits He'd Rather Sell Defective Copies of Halo 3 Than Let Me Find Undamaged One

Sep 25, 2007 01:06

If you're a media hype sucker like me and you're going to go buy Halo 3, and if you're also a SHINY METAL TIN sucker like me (no apologies, metal tin casing is awesome), make sure to open up your copy of Halo 3 in the store, in front of the cashier.

I went to Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #1231 for the 12:00am release event tonight because I ( Read more... )

Nope, not overreacting. New goods should be in new condition. Since these were all opened in the store, Walmart can return them as defective (probably could, even if you'd taken them home), and not take a loss.

The manufacturer shouldn't really complain, anyway, since it's due to a flaw in their package design. Of course, that doesn't mean they'll make it easy for anyone. Glad you managed to (finally) find a decent game disk. Hope the bonus one works for you, too.

Well, they have shitty customer service. You had a complaint, and yet they never asked "is there a way we can help you, sir?" -- either out loud, OR to themselves. WAY too late, they figured stuff out by thinking, "How can we get this jerk out of the store ( ... )

Thanx! I like to think everything I think/say/write is excellent (and I know it's not, of course), but it's nice to have confirmation sometimes. The intarweb is full of rantyness (and I provide my share) and some people just agree without saying stuff...so yeah. thanx!

Thought I recognised your handle, from Rabbitron's LJ.

Wal-Mart probably has a customer retention, customer service call number. I'd see what kind of coupons/discount they're willing to give to someone who's dealt with a known problem, especially when they've approached a manager and had to come back to the store more than once.

Print out the article linked above and bring it with you. That ought to help.

This is why I never shop at Walmart. Last time I shopped their was to get a baby swing. On my way out the door some walmart security shit head stopped me to check my receipt. 1 baby swing. He looked at the receipt, then at the swing. The receipt. The swing. Seriously scanning the receipt as if I hid something on it, then looking at the swing critically as if the swing itself was going to crack under the strain and confess to the murder of several walmart employees. After 10 minutes of watching this guy look like a monkey doing a math problem I walked away without my receipt.

In California, you are not legally required to stop and let the security guy inspect your receipt. The exception to this is Sam's Club / Costco, where in your contract you consent to such searches as a condition of your membership.

Sam's Club is owned by Wal-Mart.

Are we seeing a pattern here?

Step #1: don't shop at Wal-Mart.

Step #2: see step #1.

The proper response to "I need to see your receipt" is "No thank you."

They can't do a thing legally, unless they've seen you shove something into your bag. Anything you've paid for is yours, even the plastic walmart bag and the shiny paper receipt.

Wow... Did MS/Bungie not spring for some paper sleeves?

Nah, there's nubs in the casing to hold the disks on, like a normal dvd case, but they're not very good.
