The day Ryoma saw Fuji out with a girl from his photography club, he methodically broke off the arms of every cactus of Fuji’s. For her brown hair, Ryoma snapped off an arm. For her dark eyes, for her smile, for each time she asked Fuji to help her adjust the zoom on her camera, his hands brushing over hers, he broke off another.
When he was done, Fuji’s windowsill was littered with broken cacti and Ryoma’s fingers felt like his heart.
When Fuji came back, he looked at Ryoma and then gently, patiently cradled him and removed every spine.
