Question about Elaine

Jan 12, 2009 08:39

When does Elaine go to the Academy? She's a civilian aid right through to I Coulda Been a Defendant, when she graduates as a newly minted police officer. Does that mean she was at the Academy part-time throughout seasons 1 and 2?

I have no theory except Elaine = great cop. ;-)

And your laziness is good as it creates fun discussion!

Oh, yes! What kind of cop would Elaine be? I think she'd be practical and good at helping people and detecting/figuring stuff out, and very fair, but I also think it might take her a few months to toughen up and learn to take control of dangerous situations. What do you think?

That's pretty much my view. I think she would have a good heart and by practical with the hows. She would have a good sense of intuition (I see her making detective eventually) but the streets are a different place to the station so that might take some getting used to. Plus criminals might treat her differently as she is a female cop. But I think over time she would be able to deal with it.

*nodnodnod* I think it'd be important for her to work at a different division for a while, so she could find her feet without the guys "helping" and crowding her (with good intentions, but nonetheless).

How old do you think she is?

I agree. Not that that would stop them dropping by to check up on her now and then ;-)

Hmmm I go for mid-twenties. I know that Catherine Bruhier was only 22/23 in season one. I tend to place Elaine as being a bit older than that, a bit more life experience. I tend to go 25 or 26 maybe. Not much older than CB but a few years.

Yikes, that's younger than I thought! I want Elaine to be older than that, too, for balance. And also, to have lots of life experience, yes. Do you think she went to college? I think maybe she started a degree but dropped out for family reasons, and then worked a few jobs before she decided to be a cop.

Isn't it just. I find it more weird now as I am now older than she was when she was in dS. I think that's why she doesn't seem to have aged that much since the show ended, she's not even 40 yet.

I think that she probably did start a degree but had to drop out. I see maybe her father dying and her having to support her mother or something like that.

I think she probably did a few jobs, perhaps in stores or something like that. Then she wanted to be a cop so decided to start as a civilain aide as that would give her experience and an income.

I'm now older than Fraser and Ray V were in canon! o.O

*is shocked* See I would never think that.

We're all as young as we feel!

Fraser's 33 in the Pilot, isn't he? Do we ever find out how old Ray is?

Yes, yes he is.

Ray's actual age is never mwntioned in canon but a prop not seen on screen (I think it was in Vault) indicates Ray's birthdate is Jan 1960, the same as DM. So I have always assumed that. Which means Ray is roughly a year older than Fraser.

RayV's birthday is May 28. It's shown in Eclipse.

I do think it's foolish, though, for TPTB to go assigning birthdates to characters that are different from their actors' birthdates, if they don't actually have to. Because some viewers might certainly think that a Capricorn doesn't seem much like a Gemini. :)

See I know very little of S3/4 canon (S1/2 I know backward but...)

My own personal canon has him have a late Jan birthdate purely because it fitted into Chinese Astrology well for a fic I wrote. *g*

But yeah I think TPTB should stick to actors birthdates, at least roughly. It's easy for everyone to remember then.

*ponders if Ray Vecchio acts like a Capricorn*
