i'd be happy to host a sewing night, though i don't have a serger. i'm not sure those pictures call for one, though? maybe the gloves.

i'm actually tearing my hair out over glove patterns right now, having decided that fingerless satin opera gloves would be fun. but those gloves pictured above are... more fingerless than the designs i've been looking at. might not be too bad.

I agree that a serger isn't necessary... might be helpful but far from necessary.

I've made gloves like that from garment leather without all the frippery. The pattern is wicked simple.

So, it looks like you just want to take battered clothing and turn it into something an itinerant musician has been wearing for years through the post-apocalyptic industrial revolution, yes? I can talk to you about how you might go about that on your own but I think the ragamuffin craft night is a splendid idea.
