It’s a routine mission, not even a mission, really. Teyla had some business with the people of Tevan, and Ronon agreed to go with her. She's glad of his company. Too often she's left to do these errands alone
When she’s finished her business (trading, mostly, picking up things for the baby), they make their way through the forest back to the gate. It’s a lovely day, and Teyla feels relaxed, happy to be outside and away from city for a while.
“You getting any sleep these days?” Ronon asks her.
“Not much, I’m afraid. Although things are a little easier now that Kanaan’s request has been granted and he’s been allowed to return from the mainland.” It is...a mixed blessing having him there.
“How’s he liking life in the big city?”
“He’s happy to be reunited with Torren and I, but…he’s having difficulty adjusting to life in Atlantis.”
Ronon chuckles. “Yeah, I hear the shower scared him.”
She arches an amused eyebrow at him. “And you once stunned Dr. Garrett at your own surprise birthday party.”
“He spooked me,” Ronon protests with a frown.
She looks back at him with a teasing smile. “Uh huh.”
After a few more steps, she continues. “It’s difficult for Kanaan. He has Torren and me, of course, but…I still think he feels isolated.” And she feels isolated from him at times. It has not been easy for either of them.
“Yeah, well, he just needs to make some new friends. You should get him to come by the gym sometime,” he suggests, a somewhat feral smile accompanying his suggestion. “We could spar.”
“Thank you,” Teyla responds dryly. “That’s very kind of you, but I need him in one piece for the foreseeable future.”
“Ah, you’re no fun,” he answers with a grin.
Ronon halts, and Teyla looks to him curiously. “Hey,” he says, pointing to something as he drops his bag to move closer and get a better look. It looks like a body, half-hidden by the undergrowth
“Hey!” he says again, this time to the body.
It happens almost too quickly for Teyla to process. The body rises, aiming a pulse pistol, like Ronon's, at him. Three shots are fired before Ronon actually goes down, and Teyla just manages to get a glimpse of his attacker.
"Tyre," she gasps, and then she too, is hit with the stunner.
