Time is a scalar quantity. It has magnitude, but no direction. You cannot have negative time, and you cannot accelerate or decelerate it. It just is, whether you like it or not.

You have no idea how true your entry holds to me - my soulmate died 3 weeks ago.
I.. want to rewind time, if only it can be rewinded, so that he did not have to die.

But like you said, time is as it is, and there's no way anyone can manipulate it - "Nothing lasts. You have to find some way to deal, because the wheels will keep on turning regardless."

Things may last. For a time. In some cases that's long enough. If I lived on Maui for 10 years, I might want to see the desert again, walk in the snow.
