I think it would be a great idea if a selection of flights were made kid-free daily. Not all flights. Just a few. I'd happily pay an extra few bucks if I could be guaranteed some peace and quiet.
While we're at it, let's move to make movie theatres adopt the idea as well. As it is, I make a point of attending the Gold Class cinemas if it's a movie I really don't want ruined. People with kids don't tend to want to spend the big dollars on movie tickets, either.
Do babies fly for free? I think they do, or for very little - if it'd be impossible (for legal reasons) to ban them outright, the hassle-free flights could just charge full fare for them.
Oh hell yeah! Nothing pisses me off more or faster on a plane to spend a five-hour trip from Newark to San Francisco hearing some brat cry. I also second wanting to fly on a kid-free plane, and would pay a few extra bucks as well. Bad enough I have to fly coach altogether.
Hehe.... yeah, try a 14 hour flight from Sydney to San Francisco!
And yes, if you can possibly manage it, I suggest business class. Much less chance of kids when you sit in Business Class. Although from my experience if you do happen to get stuck with kids in business class, those are some of the most unattentive parents of all!
Usually people who fly business or first have a nanny who flies with them, and they chuck nanny and said kids in economy while they fly business... thus proving that even parents don't like to fly in planes with THEIR OWN KIDS!
I'm weird in that way too; I just saw a baby in a shopping cart the other day and thought it was cute. It was being quiet, though. But toddlers are just SO annoying. I guess it's because they're in that transition point between learning to talk and learning manners.
I'm actually surprised they haven't segregated them sooner. Its turned into a big joke now that when you fly if you're sitting next to or near a kid, your experience is going to be crappy. They really should have a "family section"... and that section should be sound proofed.

I say we have certain theatres where no one under 18 is allowed. I tend to have more problems from the 13-16 crowd than I do with anyone younger.

Hey; those several hours of yelling, crying and seat-kicking are a privilege. You are an ingrate if you can't appreciate them.
