By definition, a "miracle" is an occurrence that seems to defy the laws of nature. Millions of bloody babies get born every day. NOT A FUCKING MIRACLE.
Bill Hicks was awesome.

Probably because Carlin's career spanned over five decades, including TV, Movies, and Books, from "grownup" content to a kid's show, whereas Bill Hicks, as brilliant and hilarious as he was, didn't even have a twenty-year pro career, and was really not "famous" until the very late 80s, and he died in 1994?

It's not a case of anyone disliking Hicks, he was a friggin' genius. But you're comparing two people at monstrously different levels of fame, career length, breadth, you name it. Had Hicks lived past 32, and had another 4 decades to work with, i've no doubt he'd have had the same level of fame as Carlin.

Heh, I didn't know any of that =P we barely have stand-up comedians where I live, I'm just starting to learn about English-speaking ones from youtube. That's why I was surprised to see Carlin quoted and sometimes posted here, and no Hicks. One year ago, I never even knew they existed =P sad but true.

Bill Hicks was actually more popular in the UK than the US, even though he was from Texas. American: The Bill Hicks Story is a documentary about his life made by Brits. I would guess that if you ask the average British person who Bill Hicks is, they'd be far more likely to know than the average American. He was very critical of American politics, especially George Bush Sr., and I'm sure that resonated with the Brits. If Hicks were still alive I'm sure he could've used a lot of the same material against Bush Jr.

These days Doug Stanhope does a lot of similar anti-kid material, and in fact started a fund-raiser to encourage Bristol Palin to get an abortion which he turned over to the Lilith Fund, a Texas charity that raises money for women who want abortions but can't afford them.
